My wife inherited a p38 that belonged to her grandfather that died before she was born. Based on the cyq code on it and the serial number of 950, it appears it was made by a German company called Spreewerk in October of 1942. It also has the eagle over 88 proof mark.

Oct 31, 2006 · I'm wondering if there is any collector value in the Grey Ghost model of P38 that was imported by Interarms? I have seen photos of these pistols with the SVW 45 and SVW 46 markings on the slide. Mine is byf 44. There is a French proof on the slide and one inside the pistol. There is also one waffenamt on the barrel block. All of the numbers match.

Yes the asterisk is usually found on Spreewerk P.38's, mostly on the left side of the slide. The six pointed star (like the Star of David) appears on my Walther P.38 ac45 serial number 1632A and is located on the left side of the locking block. It's meaning is still not known, bur probably some type of control or inspection mark. Fred
Spreewerk P.38's are the ones on the lower end of the price range over here, with Walthers and Mausers being more desired. I have 3 cyq's, c-, d- and s-block. The c and d are nice pieces , whereas the s-block is pretty rotten and will end up as a cutaway one day. cyq's don't carry manufacturing years as the others do; it's an oddity of these.

I struck a deal with the seller and it came home with me. It's an AC45 in the C block with all matching numbers and just two proof marks on the slide.
